Why this one
- Four spatial streams across dual-band WiFi 6 — 2×2 on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz — means the radio can serve multiple clients simultaneously rather than queuing them, which is what keeps a busy open-plan office responsive.
- 5 GHz throughput of 2.4 Gbps using 160 MHz channel width gives devices that support it a meaningful speed ceiling, so a handful of high-demand users don't choke the AP for everyone else.
- At 9W max draw, it runs on 802.3af PoE — the standard supported by most UniFi switches — so there's no separate power adapter to run and no injector required if you already have a PoE switch in the rack.
- Rated to operate at –30 to 60 °C, which means it handles a warehouse or plant-room ceiling without thermal issues, even if airflow at the mounting point is poor.
Good fit if you're covering a single floor area up to roughly 140 m², have a PoE switch already in place, and want a straightforward WiFi 6 ceiling AP without spending on a higher-capacity model.
Worth considering something else if you're covering a larger or multi-zone space — the U6-PRO carries six spatial streams and broader coverage — or if your clients are mostly WiFi 6E devices that could use the 6 GHz band, in which case the U6-ENTERPRISE is worth the step up.
What you'll also need
A PoE switch or injector supplying 802.3af (no injector is included), Cat5e or better to the ceiling mounting point, and a UniFi Network controller — either a self-hosted instance or a Cloud Gateway such as the UCG-ULTRA — running version 7.3.76 or later; ceiling and wall mounts are included in the box.
