Why this one
- NFC at 13.56 MHz supports MIFARE Classic, MIFARE DESFire, FeliCa and ISO 14443/15693 cards, so it works with most existing credential types without re-issuing cards.
- BLE 4.1 enables handwave unlock via the UniFi Access mobile app, which removes the need to physically touch the reader at a busy entry point.
- IP55 weatherproofing and a -30 to 45°C operating range mean it suits external doors, covered car park entries and other exposed mounting positions — not just indoor use.
- At 5W on standard PoE, it runs from the same switch port as any other UniFi device, so no separate power cabling is needed at the door frame.
Good fit if you're running UniFi Access and need a reader at a door where staff use a mix of NFC cards, fobs or mobile credentials, and the mounting point may be exposed to weather.
Worth considering something else if you need a reader with a built-in keypad for PIN entry — the UA-G3-PRO adds that and suits higher-security doors where card-only access isn't sufficient.
What you'll also need
A UniFi Access Hub or compatible Dream Machine running the Access application, a PoE switch or injector, and Cat5e or better to the mounting point; a gang box is included, and a junction box is available separately if needed — the reader ships in white or black to match your door hardware.
