A compact desktop gateway for small-to-medium sites where 2.5G WAN speeds and active threat detection matter, but rack space or budget for a Dream Machine doesn't.

Why this one

• Five 2.5 GbE ports — one WAN by default, but the Max supports up to four WAN interfaces, so you can bond or fail over across multiple ISP connections without extra hardware.
• IDS/IPS throughput of 2.3 Gbps means threat inspection runs at wire speed on a 2.5G connection, rather than becoming the bottleneck the moment you enable it.
• The quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor and 2 GB RAM give it enough headroom to run IDS/IPS alongside routing without the sluggishness you'd see on an entry-level gateway at similar traffic volumes.
• USB-C power at 5V/3A and a 141.8 × 127.6 × 30 mm footprint mean it sits on a shelf or behind a screen, drawing under 10W — no rack, no dedicated power run.

Good fit if you're running a small office or multi-WAN site on 2.5G or faster internet, already have a UniFi Network Server or Cloud Key to manage it, and want active threat detection without stepping up to a rack-mount appliance.

Worth considering something else if you don't yet have a UniFi Network Server or Cloud Key — the UXG-MAX requires one to operate, so the UCG-MAX (which has the controller built in) may be the more practical starting point for a standalone site.

A UniFi Network Server or Cloud Key (the UXG-MAX has no built-in controller), a 2.5 GbE-capable switch if you're connecting more than four devices directly, and Cat5e or better to each port — the USB-C power adapter is included in the box.
