A 5 GHz point-to-point bridge for outdoor links where interference is a real problem and the horn antenna needs to swap out as the site changes.

Why this one

  • The interchangeable horn antenna means you can change the beam pattern to match the link geometry without replacing the radio — useful when a site evolves or the first horn doesn't clear interference.
  • The 45° default horn gives a tighter pattern than a typical sector, which reduces the amount of noise the radio picks up from adjacent channels and neighbouring networks.
  • A built-in 2.4 GHz management radio lets you access the device over a separate channel while the 5 GHz link is live, so you're not locked out during configuration changes.
  • Wind survivability rated to 200 km/h and a –40 to 70 °C operating range mean it handles Australian coastal and inland conditions without additional enclosure work.

Good fit if you're building a short-to-medium outdoor link — rooftop-to-rooftop, shed to house, building to building — in a noisy 5 GHz environment where a dish would be overkill but an omni isn't selective enough.

Worth considering something else if your link is longer range and needs a tighter beam and higher gain than 14 dBi — the LBE-5AC-LR (airMAX LiteBeam 5AC Long-Range) is a fixed-dish design built for exactly that, and sits in the same price band.

What you'll also need

A second IS-5AC or compatible airMAX device at the far end, outdoor-rated Cat5e or better to the mounting point, and the included 24V passive PoE adapter — this unit does not run on 802.3af/at PoE, so a standard UniFi PoE switch port won't power it.
