Ubiquiti NSM5 | airMAX NanoStation M5
A 5 GHz outdoor CPE for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links where the run is too long for Wi-Fi but too short to justify a dish antenna.
Why this one
- The integrated 14.6–16.1 dBi antenna covers links out to 15+ km without a separate dish, which means one unit to mount rather than a radio-plus-antenna assembly.
- Dual-linear polarisation and a 43°/15° beam pattern let you aim at a remote point without obsessive alignment, while still rejecting interference from off-axis sources.
- The 24V passive PoE adapter is included in the box, so power runs over the same Cat5e as data — no separate mains supply at the mounting point.
- UV-stabilised polycarbonate and a –30 to 75°C operating range mean it handles Australian summers and alpine winters without a weatherproof enclosure.
Good fit if you're bridging two buildings on the same property, backfilling a remote shed or outbuilding, or providing last-mile connectivity where you need reliable 5 GHz performance over several kilometres and a compact, single-piece unit.
Worth considering something else if your link exceeds the M5's practical range or you need higher throughput — the NS-5AC (airMAX NanoStation 5AC, same price band) moves to 802.11ac and is worth comparing for newer deployments, and for longer or higher-capacity links the LBE-5AC-LR steps up further.
What you'll also need
A second NanoStation M5 or a compatible airMAX access point at the far end, outdoor-rated Cat5e or better for each run, and a router or switch with a spare port at each site — the 24V PoE adapter is included but you'll need one per unit.
