Ubiquiti U5G-MAX | UniFi 5G Max
A 5G modem that slots into any UniFi deployment via PoE, giving sites a cellular WAN or automatic failover without a separate router or power run.
Why this one
- 5G NSA throughput reaches 3.4 Gbps down and 560 Mbps up, which is enough headroom to serve as a primary WAN on a busy site rather than just an emergency fallback.
- Dual SIM slots — one physical nano-SIM and one nano-SIM or eSIM — let you hold SIMs from two carriers, so failover switches networks rather than just retrying the same one.
- It draws 14.5W over standard PoE, so any UniFi PoE switch port powers and manages it; no separate power adapter, no extra hardware to rack.
- The 1.3" touchscreen displays connection status and signal directly on the unit, which matters when you're positioning it against a window to find the best cell signal.
Good fit if you're running a UniFi network and need a managed cellular WAN — either as a primary connection where fixed broadband isn't available, or as an automatic failover on a site where downtime is costly.
Worth considering something else if you need outdoor-rated cellular coverage, or your UniFi controller is running a version earlier than 10.0.162 and you can't update it over an existing internet connection before adoption — the U5G-MAX requires a live alternate connection to complete initial setup.
What you'll also need
A UniFi PoE switch or PoE injector, a compatible SIM (nano format) from a supported carrier, and a UniFi console running Network version 10.0.162 or later with an alternate internet connection available for initial adoption; an existing Cloud Gateway such as the UCG-MAX or UDM-PRO handles all of this if you're building a new deployment. Available in standard and outdoor variants — both in the same price band.
