Title

A ceiling-mount WiFi 7 access point for open-plan offices, classrooms and hospitality spaces that need to handle 300+ concurrent devices without the congestion that plagues 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz only deployments.

Why this one

  • The 6 GHz radio band is largely clear of legacy device traffic, so WiFi 7 clients connecting at up to 5.8 Gbps on a 320 MHz channel get that throughput rather than sharing spectrum with every older device in the building.
  • Six spatial streams across three radios (2x2 on each band) means the AP can serve 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz clients simultaneously, keeping older hardware off the bands your newest devices need.
  • The 2.5 GbE uplink means the backhaul won't become the bottleneck before the radio does — a standard GbE uplink would cap aggregate throughput well below what the radios can deliver.
  • At 21W draw, it requires PoE+ (802.3at) — most entry-level UniFi switches supply this, but worth confirming before you order.

Good fit if you're covering a single large room or open-plan floor of up to 140 m² with a dense mix of current and legacy clients, and you have a PoE+ capable switch and UniFi Network running version 8.0.28 or later.

Worth considering something else if you need to cover multiple rooms or a larger footprint — the U7-LR covers greater range from a single mounting point, or you may need multiple U7-PRO units; alternatively, if your environment is straightforward and 6 GHz clients are rare, the U7-LITE handles lighter loads without requiring PoE+.

What you'll also need

A PoE+ switch such as the USW-LITE-16-POE or USW-PRO-8-POE, Cat5e or better to the ceiling mounting point, and a UniFi Network controller (any Dream Machine or Cloud Gateway running firmware 8.0.28+); the pro mount is included, but if you're deploying five units the U7-PRO-5 five-pack is listed separately in the catalogue.
