A compact WiFi 5 access point that mounts to ceilings, walls, or poles indoors or out, for sites where coverage reach matters more than maximum throughput.
Why this one
- IPX6 weatherproofing and a -40 to 60 °C operating range mean it survives a sheltered outdoor spot — an eave, a covered loading dock, a carport — without a separate enclosure.
- Two RP-SMA connectors let you swap the internal antenna for a high-gain external, which is useful when you're trying to push coverage down a long corridor or across a narrow yard rather than radiating in all directions.
- At 8W max draw it runs on standard 802.3af PoE, so any port on a UniFi PoE switch powers it without checking the switch's per-port budget first.
- Ceiling, wall, and pole mounts are all included in the box, so you're not ordering hardware before you've decided where it's going.
Good fit if you need a single AP for a small area — up to roughly 115 m² — in a location that's awkward for a standard ceiling unit, particularly anywhere exposed to weather or where an external antenna would improve directionality.
Worth considering something else if you're covering a busy open-plan office or warehouse where client density and throughput are the priority — the U6-MESH or U7-LITE offer WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 respectively, which handle more concurrent clients more efficiently on the same PoE budget.
What you'll also need
A UniFi controller (any Cloud Gateway or Dream Machine running UniFi Network 7.5.187 or later), a PoE switch or injector, and Cat5e or better to the mounting point; an external antenna with RP-SMA connectors is optional but worth considering if you need directed coverage rather than the built-in omni pattern.
