Why this one
- Three 10G SFP+ ports let one uplink serve two active gateways simultaneously, which is the physical arrangement Shadow Mode HA requires — this isn't a general-purpose switch pressed into service.
- Dual internal AC power supplies mean the switch itself doesn't become the single point of failure you bought two gateways to eliminate.
- ESD protection rated to ±22kV contact and ±16kV air discharge matters in a rack that's handling live WAN traffic where a surge event hits at the worst possible time.
- At 13W max draw and 1U, it adds almost nothing to your rack footprint or power budget compared with the redundancy it provides.
Good fit if you're running two UniFi gateways in Shadow Mode HA — a UDM-Pro, UDM-SE, or UXG-Pro pair — and need the WAN-side switching that makes active failover actually work.
Worth considering something else if you're not running Shadow Mode HA, in which case a standard UniFi switch handles WAN uplinks without the specialised port layout this device is designed around.
What you'll also need
Two compatible UniFi gateways configured for Shadow Mode HA (such as a UDM-PRO or UXG-PRO pair), 10G SFP+ modules or DAC cables to match your ISP uplink and inter-gateway connections, and rack space with dual IEC power feeds to make use of the redundant PSUs; available with SFP+ or RJ45 WAN port variants.
