Why this one
- It runs a full UniFi Network controller on-device, so you get the same routing, VLANs, and traffic management as a rack-mounted gateway — without needing a separate server or cloud key.
- The integrated WiFi 6 radio covers up to 140 m², which is enough for a small office floor plate or a single-storey home without adding a separate access point.
- At 98 × 98 × 30 mm and USB-C powered at 10W, it sits on a desk or shelf next to your modem — no rack space, no PoE switch, no dedicated power run.
- It manages up to 4 UniFi devices, so you can add a switch or a second access point as the network grows, all within the same UniFi app.
Good fit if you're setting up a small home or office network from scratch, want UniFi's management layer without buying separate controller hardware, and your site fits within a handful of devices.
Worth considering something else if you need to manage more than 4 UniFi devices, or you're on UniFi Network 9.1 or higher — the UX tops out at Network 8.x, so sites that need the latest platform should look at the UX7 instead, which is listed separately on this page.
What you'll also need
A modem or ONT to connect the GbE WAN port to your internet service; if you plan to add wired devices or PoE cameras, a UniFi switch such as the USW-FLEX-MINI or USW-LITE-8-POE will be required, as the UX itself has only two GbE ports.
